A tight Slap in the face of the fans: One Punch Man Season 3

Getting slapped in the face, that's what at least I felt while watching the horrendous season 3 of One Punch Man! A shame that J.C Staff must bear forever!

It's Really concerning when Fan Made Animations are better than the original Anime!

We as a fan of OPM were sceptical from the moment it was announced that J.C Staff was the Animation company behind the massive One Punch Man season 3, but there was still some hope, alas wishful thinking.
The teasers started dropping, so did our hopes, slowly but steadily.

The Core Issue:

  1. Wildly known One Frame Man. We only see Frames instead of actual Animations.

  2. Using of Neon background in every scene, which was totally destroying the scenes and making it cringy.

  3. The incompetency of J.C Staff. Which is a known fact by now.

There are more issue throughout the season, but let's talk about something's which are more important. For instance, the confidence to release a product like this! Think about it, There are actual People who consciously designed the framed scenes and someone who approved them like they thought it's okay to release this?

I would have seriously believed if there was AI behind all of these, by this, I mean, the production committee itself. Even if they had used AI for this, I truly, the product would have been much better than the actual human produced thing.

THE REAL VILLAIN: The Production Committee

This is where it gets interesting - and infuriating. Who Really Controls One Punch Man? The production committee includes stakeholders, manga publishers (Shueisha), TV networks, and toy companies. They set the budget, schedule, and hire the studio. The animation studio is basically a contractor with no real power.

Even then, it was J.C Staffs responsibility to deliver the actual product, and they fumbled like a deep-sea diver who realizes their oxygen tank is filled with bubble tea. It's funny, isn't it? They didn't get the time, barely got any time!

After Season 1's success, Bandai Namco and the production committee wanted more One-Punch Man fast - instead of waiting for the original team, they switched studios because apparently "time was money". So they decided to play with the fan's emotion. The production committee refused to wait for Natsume's availability - three and a half years had already passed since Season 1.

If you're wondering, who's Natsume? Well, He is Shingo Natsume, the man behind One Punch Man Season one's Huge success and amazing animations! Started as animator in 2003, worked on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009), directed Space Dandy (2014).

Notable Works: The Tatami Galaxy, Space Dandy, ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., Boogiepop and Others, Sonny Boy.

Natsume assembled a dream team of elite freelance animators through his personal industry connections. Manga artist Yusuke Murata himself stated he heard from people on set that Director Natsume was the most talented of them all.

He was a freelancer animator and already had projects in his hand. So he wanted some time but as you know and as I said earlier, Time was money! Now I hope the picture is getting clear, huh? Who's gonna wait for the man, let us go ahead without him and destroy One Punch Man! Great Idea, I must say.

Season 3 - Shinpei Nagai

The man who's did season 3 is relatively unknown, worked on romantic comedies like "I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying" and "2.5 Dimensional Seduction". As per other sources: Nagai asked J.C. Staff to withhold information about his appointment because he's "relatively unknown and doesn't have standout achievements as an animator".

How can you give an IP this big with huge following around the globe and expectations that far surpasses season one's greatness to an unknown animator who didn't have enough experience! Yet, even he's not experienced enough, the product he created is shambolic at best. Even a kid would probably create better slideshows of OPM and add some animations using AI.

J.C STAFF and The yearly projects:

One Punch Man turns into just another show with no passion when a studio creates 14–15 anime shows annually and none of them stand out as particularly noteworthy with mediocre animations. Unfortunately, they already announced part two and funnily enough, The poster is as basic and laughable you could possibly imagine. They used the same poster but change the position of the characters.

We can conclude that they haven't learned anything from the backlash, but one can only hope and hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things.
